The Signature Essential Oils
There are many different essential oils. For the salon however we have selected 5 essential oils that we feel can be used practically in the salon daily. Have these essential oils on your manicure table or pedicure trolley or your beauty room for treatments.
Lavender (Lavendula angustifolia)
Lavender is the essential oil of relaxation
- Aroma: Light and floral
- Wellbeing: Calming, soothing, improves sleeplessness
- Body: Helps ease upper respiratory complaints. Its warming qualities are helpful for joint pain. Can also be used to relive headaches
- Skin care: A well known first aid treatment for skin irritation and inflammation, including sunburn. Helps the skin to retain its softness. Can be used as an insect repellant.
Salon Use • to soothe and relax your client Massage: 5 drops to 25ml of carrier oil. Apply: one or two drops to base of neck or on temple area to calm and soothe.
Home Care • for relaxation Bath: 10 to 15 drops. Burner: 10 to 15 drops added to burner dish filled to brim with water. Apply: 1 or 2 drops onto pillow before sleep.
Peppermint (Mentha piperita)
Peppermint is the essential oil of energy and focus.
- Aroma: Sharp clear menthol freshness
- Well being: refreshing and cooling when hot and humid. Helps to clear the mind
- Body: has a powerful decongestant property, ideal for treating the symptoms of colds, flu, hay fever and sinusitis. Improves circulation, helpful to ease nagging headaches. Can be used to calm upset stomach.
- Skin: Excellent skin cleansing properties, especially for an oily skin
Salon Use • to create a positive energy and ambience to the salon Burner: 5 to 10 drops added to burner dish filled to brim with water. Apply: one or two drops to base of neck or on temple area to calm and Soothe a headache or if feeling tried.
Home Care • to clear the head Bath: 7 to 10 drops. Burner: 5 to 10 drops added to burner dish filled to brim with water.
Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia)
Tea tree is the antiseptic essential oil.
- Aroma: Fresh, almost pungent and camphorous
- Well being: A refreshing oil that may improve stamina and general wellbeing. Helpful during convalescence.
- Body: Particularly helpful for cold and flu, helping to reduce symptoms and aid recovery. Useful for travel sickness also invigorating for the circulation.
- Skin: tea tree has excellent antiseptic qualities that can be used for wounds,insect bites and minor cuts and scratches.
Salon Use • to use for infected ingrown hairs after waxing and for pimples Apply: one drop to affected areas for ingrown hair, reapply 5 times daily, do not use near eye area.
Home Care • to clear the head and nasal passages Bath: 10 to 15 drops. Burner: 10 to 15 drops added to burner dish filled to brim with water. Apply: 1 or 2 drops onto pillow before sleep. Apply: 6 drops to bowl of near boiling water and steam skin.
Lemon (Citrus limon)
Extracted from the fruit and the peel
- Aroma: Sharp clean and refreshing
- Wellbeing: The clean fresh aroma is useful during studies and working long periods at the computer.
- Body: can help relief symptoms associated with digestive upsets such as nausea. Beneficial during cold and flu season helping to reduce symptoms and improve recovery. Soothing for stiff joint or swollen joints bring relief to aching limps particularly clients with varicose veins.
- Skin: Excellent antiseptic qualities, useful cleanser for skin and hair. Helps relieve the discomfort of skin irritations such as cold sores, tinea.
Salon use • for temporary relief of rheumatic or arthritic pain, varicose and spider veins. Apply: 5 drops to 25 ml of carrier oil and massage gently over affected areas.
Home use: Add 5 to 10 drops to a bowl filled with hot water (adults only) and inhale vapor Burner: 10 to 15 drops added to burner dish to cleanse and uplift during the day.
Eucalyptus ( Eucalyptus globulus)
Distilled from the twigs and leaves of the gum tree
- Aroma: Clear, sharp and piercing
- Wellbeing: calming and refreshing, invigorating and clarifying
- Body: Well known as an excellent decongestant, helping to ease symptoms associated with cold and flu, sinus and hay fever. It’s also has warming qualities which will help relieve muscular tension and cramps. Used for its temporary relief that it offers to clients that suffer from arthritic and rheumatic pain.
- Skin: will help oxygen exchange in the cells, decongesting to a sluggish skin. Soothing qualities will comfort skin irritations, minor burns, wounds and sores.
Salon use • for manicure and pedicure 5 drops to 25 carrier oil for massage 5 drops in bowl of warm water for manicure and pedicure.
Home use: Add 5 to 10 drops to a bowl filled with hot water and inhale vapor Burner: 5 drops added to burner dish to relief congestion form colds, flu, hay fever.

How to use your essential oils and blends - Key
In the Salon
- Massage (M): add 5 drops of your chosen essential oil to 25 mls of carrier oil.
- Burner (B): add 6 to 8 drops to burner dish filled with water.
Home Care Use
- Bath (B): fill bath with comfortably warm water. Add 10 to 15 drops of essential oil and soak.
- Facial Steam (S): fill bowl up with near boiling water. Add 5 to 10 drops of essential oil and inhale the vapor. Don’t get your head too close to the steam.
- Massage (M): add 5 drops of chosen essential oil to 25ml of carrier oil.
- Direct use (D): apply one drop only to affected area.
- Burner (BN): fill burner dish to brim with cold water. Add approx 5 drops of essential oil. All our essential oils and blends can be used in a burner.
- Aromatic Shower: put 15-20 drops of chosen essential oil on a warm, wet hand towel and hang over the shower nozzle, keeping the nozzle free so the running water won’t be disrupted.
- Foot Baths: fill a large bowl with warm water and add 5 to 10 drops of chosen essential oil. Immerse feet and relax.
Caring for Essential Oils
- Essential oils are light sensitive - all essential oils should be packed in brown glass or dark glass bottles.
- Never pack in plastic - 100% pure essential oils will absorb some of the chemicals from the plastic.
- Essential oils are temperature sensitive - They are sensitive to extreme heat or cold. Do not store in fridge or leave in the hot sun.
- Do not leave cap off bottle or the essential oil will be exposed to oxygen and start to oxidize.
